Spring Waterfowl Hunting in Alaska + Peking Duck
Spring is in full swing in Alaska with thousands of migratory birds showing up daily to breed and raise their young in the state's vast wetlands. A quick outing lands us a few beautiful birds to bring back to the cabin. Once processed and clean we try our hand at Peking Duck and are not disappointed with the iconic dish.

I do have 1 enquiry, don’t get me wrong when I say the meal looked great but how do you check about parasitic worms, I’m curious as Eric you cooked the duck quite rare for the risotto. I know bear has to be cooked well done and so does beaver, but I’m unsure about wild duck. Great vlog again.

For plucking the duck, 150 degree Fahrenheit water just continue moving the duck up and down in the water until wing feathers pull out easy, add dish soap it will help with the layers of feathers.

works the same for geese, for chickens you don't need the dish soap.

Found this and thought it might be worth a try around your cabin or where you might be working?🤷‍♀️ 1. Homemade Mosquito Trap: Mix 1 cup of water and 5 tablespoons of sugar in a pot. Dissolve the sugar over low heat. Add 1 tablespoon of yeast, then turn off the stove. Cut the top off a 2-liter plastic bottle and invert it into the base. Pour the sugar and yeast mixture into the bottle. Seal the top with tape and cover the bottle with cardboard or fabric. Place the trap in areas where mosquitoes gather. 2. Bay Leaf and Clove Spray: In a pot, combine 1 cup of water, 15 bay leaves, and 20 cloves. Simmer for 10 minutes to release the scent. Transfer the mixture to a spray container. Use this spray in areas where cockroaches, flies, and mosquitoes are a problem. 3. Insect-Repellent Spray: Mix 1/2 cup of shampoo, 1/2 cup of white vinegar, and 1/2 cup of vegetable oil in a container. Combine the ingredients thoroughly and transfer the mixture to a spray bottle. Apply this spray in areas where insects are common, such as cockroaches, flies, and mosquitoes.

Knowing you hunt to eat it’s understandable, but it wasn’t your best look. 👀 As a rule nature is in control and we do the best we can to live in harmony with it. Sometimes you get the bear 🐻 and sometimes the bear gets you! In this case a beaver 🦫!!😬😎

Maybe it has to do with altitude above sea level. I started cooking eggs for 12 to 13 minutes and they came out like rubber. I cut the time down by 30 seconds on the next batches until I was at 10 minutes and they were perfect. I live 500 feet above sea level. After cooking for 10 minutes, I immediately cooled the eggs with cold water and ice to stop the cooking process.

Hi @SimpleLivingAlaska. Eric, i'v noticed when you're operating your backhoe, your movements seem to be a bit eratic/jolty. i've found with smaller machinery, if you drop the engine RPM, your movements will become a lot smoother (increasing Revs, when you need too, ie. ripping up stumps or digging tough ground etc.) i hope this helps ;-)
